Insurance & Participant Responsibilities

Introduction

Safety, responsibility, and preparation are fundamental principles of Atlas Uncharted.

Participation in the expedition requires every team to maintain valid insurance coverage, legal vehicle documentation, and adequate personal preparation throughout the journey.

Atlas Uncharted is not a guided tourist tour.

It is an independent overland expedition through remote regions where participants must be capable of acting responsibly and self-sufficiently.

 

Mandatory Insurance

Every participating team must carry valid insurance coverage for all countries visited during the expedition.

The following coverage is mandatory:

  • International vehicle liability insurance
     

  • Green Card or equivalent international coverage documentation
     

  • Travel health insurance
     

  • Medical evacuation and repatriation coverage
     

  • Valid vehicle registration and legal driving documentation
     

Proof of insurance may be requested prior to departure, during technical inspection, or at border crossings.

Participation without valid mandatory insurance coverage is not permitted.

 

Optional but Strongly Recommended Coverage

Due to the remote and technical nature of the expedition, additional insurance coverage is strongly recommended.

Recommended optional coverage includes:

  • Off-road recovery insurance
     

  • Comprehensive vehicle damage insurance
     

  • Equipment and electronics insurance
     

  • Satellite communication devices and coverage
     

  • Extended roadside assistance where applicable
     

Remote terrain, weather conditions, and border regions may significantly complicate recovery or repair operations.

 

Insurance Assistance by Atlas Uncharted

Atlas Uncharted may assist participants in identifying suitable insurance solutions for the expedition.

This may include:

  • Border insurance assistance
     

  • Guidance regarding Green Card coverage
     

  • Contacts to international rally and expedition insurance providers
     

  • Assistance with required insurance documentation
     

  • General guidance regarding medical evacuation coverage
     

Insurance contracts are concluded directly between the participant and the respective insurance provider.

Atlas Uncharted does not act as an insurance company or financial intermediary.

Atlas Uncharted may assist participants with organizing or arranging suitable insurance and expedition-related services where possible.

Participant Responsibility

Participation in Atlas Uncharted takes place entirely at the participant’s own risk.

Every participant remains responsible for:

  • The technical condition of the vehicle
     

  • Compliance with local laws and regulations
     

  • Valid insurance coverage
     

  • Safe and responsible driving behavior
     

  • Personal health and fitness for remote travel
     

  • Adequate equipment and preparation
     

The organization cannot guarantee vehicle recovery, rescue operations, medical evacuation, replacement transportation, or technical support in every situation.

 

Recovery & Emergency Situations

The organization team may assist in coordinating emergency procedures where possible.

However:

  • Recovery operations may depend on terrain and accessibility
     

  • Medical evacuation may require external providers
     

  • Delays may occur in remote areas
     

  • Costs arising from recovery or evacuation remain the responsibility of the participant unless covered by insurance
     

Participants are strongly encouraged to prepare accordingly.

Depending on nationality, vehicle type, and route conditions, additional costs may apply.

Examples may include:

  • Border-related vehicle insurance
     

  • Medical evacuation insurance
     

  • Recovery assistance
